dream kitchen

I love when I am on the dreaded treadmill and one of my favorite movies comes on the TV! Today it was Pillow Talk! I never cease to be inspired by the wonderful costumes, decor and styling in that movie. I had forgotten about the wonderful pink kitchen and counter tops that Doris Day has in her apartment. A pink kitchen would be my absolute dream! Here are some great ones I found on flickr.

wanted and found

I have always been in love with vintage swim caps! I am so happy to have found them in a rainbow of colors at Headcovers Unlimited. Even though I'm sure I would not look as fab as the girl in the second picture, I still want one!

sound of music

I am excited to say that this week I will be performing as Maria in one of my all time favorite musicals, Sound of Music! When not blogging, thrifting, or running pinkcupcakevintage, I am usually acting, and am blessed that it keeps me busy pretty full time! I got the acting bug early and still love it just as much today! Since we open Sound of Music on Friday, this week will be filled with many late night rehearsals and therefore I fear I may not get to blog as often as I would like. I hope to be back soon with lots to share!

kc wrap up

Whew wee! I apologize for the late return. After getting back Monday and hitting the ground running, I am just now finding time to blog about our fantastic trip to Kansas City. There were so many great things we packed in, and some of the best food I have had in a long time! Here are some of the high points from our weekend!

1. The deep fried cinnamon roll from Mama's 39th Street Diner
I can't begin to describe this yummy indulgence. Part funnel cake, part cinnamon roll, and part doughnut, this was the best thing I have tasted in years! Well done KC!

2. YJ's Snack Bar

This place defines the term "local haunt". Equal parts local hip, home style eats and kitsch decor, this little eatery has it all! The chalkboard displays what they are cooking, and the bonus.... you can catch it 24 hours a day!

3. The store decorated entirely with stuffed animals

4,500 to be exact.

4. Re-runs Vintage Clothing

I was a kid in a candy store here. We also lucked out to be there the weekend of the warehouse sale, where I scored some major cuties! The owner could have been Tim Gunn's brother and was amazingly knowledgeable! Apparently this store has costumed close to 14 movies!

the birds are back

Every spring Mr. Matty and I love when the birds come back to our house! We seem to have the same few find their way back to the same rooftop, tree branch, or fence post they perched upon last year. Isn't nature just amazing? We decided that it would be fun to have a birdhouse around just in case they wanted some "classier" digs! Here are the ones we love!

found: anthropologie in store shopping tote

Over the weekend Mr. Matty and I were in the need of some retail therapy. We first scooted over to the new Urban Outfitters. (Nashville note: I hate to be a party pooper, but I'm not loving it. I found the store to be in need of some major merchandising, not to mention there were no apartment items. Major boo!)

We then made our way to Anthropologie. While shopping, we ran into a friend who had the most amazing straw tote on her arm. I asked her where she found it, and she said the Anthro staffer gave it to her so she could shop hands free. I proceeded to the nearest girl with a walkie and asked where I could purchase this wonderful tote. She told me they were not allowed to sell them and then spouted off something about corporate policy that I tuned out. Once we got home I decided to scout a similar tote. Much to my delight, my beloved Amazon had the exact tote, and it was under $40.00. I'm in love with it's great construction and yummy leather details. Check out some of the other great totes traders and company has to offer here.

designer love: milly

I was so glad to read and see all the loveliness behind Michelle Smith of the brand Milly. Milly has always been a favorite of mine. Described as vintage sophistication meets vibrant color and whimsical prints, her studio is yet another example of her wonderful designs. Read more and see more here.

love affair

I don't know what it is about Cotton Candy that turns me into a 3 year old, but I love this stuff! Growing up, I was jealous of a class mate for bringing his personal cotton candy machine for show and tell and making it for the entire class. These days I love going to any sporting event, circus, or fair because I am guaranteed a bag of it! I love this idea for a party, or in my case a regular Wednesday night.
