Mr. Matty decided to decorate the outside of the house while I was away working Nutcracker. We don't do a whole lot, but have the usual pre-lit garland and a vintage light up Santa. So, when he texted me telling me one of the garlands had gone out, I thought..."oh well that is that...we will just settle for a Santa this year". Well, I came home to this. Matty had "fixed" the lack of garland by wrapping some of our netted lights (usually thrown on the bushes) around the banister. At first I was horrified by the white trashery that had occurred on our front porch, but then I laughed. Love you honey!

For the past few months, sugar has pretty much been obsolete in our house. So in the holiday spirit, Mr. Matty requested some cookies when I ran out to the store yesterday. While shopping, I stumbled upon a new item at my favorite food store, and hesitantly placed them in my cart. I thought, "there is no way these are going to taste good, but maybe they won't taste like cardboard either". I was blown away. These are the best gluten free cookies I have ever tasted, and they remind me of Kayce's, which I never thought anything could come close to. If you or your family eats GF, take it from me, these will slap a smile on your face.

I don't know about you, but another month is flying by. For the past few weeks I have been working behind the scenes at the Nashville Ballet Nutcracker! If you haven't seen this Nutcracker, you must! I'm so impressed with everyone involved with this company and working in the costume shop around all the gorgeous tutu's is heavenly! Also, it makes me long to be a ballerina all over again! The Nutcracker runs for their final weekend this weekend. Get your tickets before they are gone!

I am always inspired by her clever home decor & table settings, and can never get over Ben's amazingly yummy and beautifully plated food. We are big coffee drinkers at the Adams house, but if I had my pick, I would choose espresso any day over a cup of coffee. So when Williams Sonoma ran a crazy 2 day sale on Nespresso machines, I couldn't resist. After working for years in a coffee shop, there's nothing like a hand pulled shot, but Nespresso is darn close. With it's built in milk frother, we have said goodbye to $3.00 cappuccinos and now have the real thing at home!

I got my dress this summer at a great vintage store in Austin for $18.00! My shoes were a gift from Mr. Matty for actually making it through my Linda Lane Show without dying.

We were in Dallas last week for a visit and to also see some friends get hitched. We stayed here and it was amazing. We also ate here, here, and here and I can't wait to go back. My bar stools finally arrived and they are everything and more than I could have wanted! The bonus was I found them on Overstock.com. (bonus tip: I had them in my shopping cart for a little over a week and one day a coupon for 10% off my next order showed up in the mail. I can't help but think the two are related. This is my new favorite yogurt! The fruit at the bottom is the best I have ever tasted. I grab mine at the Produce Place for a quick treat!

Target had these on sale, so I decided to try a new flavor since I was already hooked on all the rest! This is the only drink I crave all summer long. My fridge is always stocked.

This magazine is the closest replacement I have found to my beloved Domino. The bummer is that it is an UK publication so the products are not easy to purchase, but you will find loads of inspiration.

You had me at the milkglass container, but these candles are the best around. The Brigitte has been keeping my house smelling sweet all summer long.

Caprese On A Stick

1 tub of rolled mozzarella

1 pint of baby tomatoes

basil

olive oil

balsamic vinegar

toothpicks

Load toothpicks full of mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil, alternating when necessary

Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve

Growing up in Alabama and Arkansas, I thought I was used to the heat, but this summer has tested even the best of us! I'm all for a lazy summer, but this heat has caused me to want to be super lazy.....especially when it comes to my beauty routine. So I thought I would share a few of my makeup short cuts for the summer.

1. Revision Tinted Moisturizer with 45 SPF

This product is a gal's dream. I really do think it's magic. It blends into your skin so effortlessly, and knowing it has 45 SPF means I don't have to have 2 creams on my face all day. Not to mention, it gives you the perfect sun kissed glow. Even for those like me who have the skin color of Casper!

2. Lash Tinting + Shu Uemura Eyelash curler

I should have taken a before and after picture of my eyelashes when I got them tinted. It's amazing. I look like I am wearing mascara all the time and it was so inexpensive! So now my routine is just a curl with my Shu Uemura curler and I'm out the door. I'm saving mascara for date night! And for those of you who think an eyelash curler is an eye lash curler no matter what brand it is, go ahead and try the Shu Uemura. You have never seen your lashes look so beautiful! 3. Natureluxe Gloss Balm

Basically, this is a gloss in a balm! During the day, I love a look of a gloss, but don't love the stickiness. This balm not only gives the same color and shine as a gloss, it also has SPF 15. Another product doing double duty! I also put this on my cheeks when they need a little color! My favorite is cabernet!

I'm going to a bachelorette party in the Hamptons and have  been stressing about what to wear. Inspired by your finds, I headed out  to Forever 21 last weekend and was totally overwhelmed. Everything  seemed too casual and nothing screamed Hamptons- evening. Plus it was  huge! I tried on a couple things, including a piece that I'm still not  sure was a shirt or a dress. Either way, I could see my butt. Also there were  accessories......mini-panic attacked ensued, and I opted for a  cheesesteak in the food court. 

The challenge: Create a Girls Night Evening Look in Black

The budget: frugal- under $50 
The client: thin girl, with no boobs, decent butt

Double bonus points for finding something that I could actually wear again.

After seeing these hair ties on everyone who works at my salon, I finally took the plunge and bought a pack! I was a little skeptical on how these little elastic ribbons were going to hold up my ponytail, but they work great, and look so much better than a rubber band. OH. MY. GOSH. Sunday night we took our friend Rob out for a birthday dinner, and he wanted to go to Bombay Palace. I like Indian food a lot, but I had no idea how much I could love it. This place is tucked away in the strip on West End that also houses UAL, and is the best kept secret in town. The staff was incredible, giving us customer service that far exceeded any expensive steak house. The menu was full of variety, and everything we tasted was exactly how you thought it might taste if you were in India. If you haven't ventured to Bombay Palace yet, you must! I myself can't stop thinking about and can't wait to return.

I stumbled upon this yummy snack when I was craving something "bad for me". This is now my favorite dessert and can even be a healthy breakfast alternative.

Better Banana Split

1 Banana

Almond Butter

Marshmallow Fluff

Strawberries

Blueberries

Almond Slices

Take the banana and spread it with almond butter and marshmallow fluff.

Top with fruit and almond slices. Put in the freezer for a few minutes.

Serve and eat!

Well in my house it's my new Thistle Farms products. I will admit...I went crazy yesterday as I scooped up candles, soap and room spray! The lady helping me asked how I heard about them, and I shared that I used their room spray in the bathroom of my fave burger joint and had to have it! She laughed and then high fived me. My kind of gal. Not only do the products smell amazing, but they are providing jobs to the women of Magdalnene. The story of Magdalene and Thistle Farms is an amazing one. Read their story here. If you can get yourself to the Met by August 7th, you must! The Alexander McQueen exhibit is one of the best pieces of art I have seen in years. It was life changing.

Getting to see my friend Christopher J. Hanke on Broadway in How To Suceed In Business alongside Harry Potter. Also, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick were sitting right in front of me. Getting to hear her laugh not to mention stare at her chic style all night, was the ultimate bonus! Christopher does a vlog for Broadway.com and is the cutest. Check him out!

Finally getting to sample some of the yummy Gluten Free goods at Babycakes NYC. Yes that is a doughnut, chocolate chip cookie, and a cupcake.

I am so happy that she is sharing a few of those tips here with my readers. You are in for a treat!!

Well hello there! This is Rebekka Seale from Dear Friend. I'm an artist and illustrator, and dear friend and big fan of Melodie's, so it's an honor and a joy to be asked to post in her absence.

Some time ago, over dinner, I shared with Melodie our weekly shopping, cooking and eating routine. My husband and I try to keep roughly 90% of what we eat local and seasonal, with the other 10% coming from a well-stocked pantry. So much is made of eating locally and seasonally these days, which is excellent, but I have found that there aren't many resources on how to do it simply, beautifully, and within a budget. Out of sheer necessity, or perhaps desperation, I designed a skeleton-like weekly meal plan for our little family, on which we've built some lovely meals!

The plan varies from season to season (in winter, there is a lot more soup!), but the basic bones are this:

Sunday: Cheese souffle, usually with a green salad. Simple, scrumptious, and we get to play with whatever local cheese we picked up at the market on Saturday.

Monday: Beans. On Mondays, we follow the ancient New Orleans tradition of cooking a huge pot of red beans and rice. I do this in the slow cooker, and sometimes I make white beans with rosemary or another variation. But, either way, I make a LOT, and we eat it all week for lunch, with fruit and cheese.

Tuesday: Dinner with friends, every week.

Wednesday: Whole Roasted chicken, with seasonal vegetables (and most always mashed potatoes!). After dinner, I put the carcass in the slow cooker with vegetable trimmings and make overnight stock. We freeze the stock and use it for soup, beans, and risotto.

Thursday: Omelettes or frittatas. These are especially fun to conjure up with different seasonal elements...fresh woodsy mushrooms, new baby potatoes...

Friday: Pasta! Endless possibilites here. Our favorites usually involve some type of spicy cured sausage and greens, or a simple aglio e olio with truffle oil.

Saturday: Saturday is a wild card. Saturday is the day we shop at the market, so sometimes we're inspired to come home and cook something splendid from the day's trip. But, very often, we go out to dinner, or grab pizza, or have dinner with friends.

Instead of being rigid, this meal plan can be very easily and loosely adapted to our schedules. Two things are necessary to make it work: 1. A weekly trip to the Farmer's market to buy eggs, meat, cheese, and whatever fruits and vegetables look alluring at the moment, and 2. A very well-stocked pantry. The idea is... if your pantry is well-stocked, you can make endless variations of endlessly charming meals. We use a pantry checklist from Alice Waters in her stunning book The Art of Simple Food. I have adapted it into an illustrated checklist that you can download and print!

i eat gluten free: homemade sorbet

I don't know about where you live, but here in Nashville it feels like summer! I was craving a frozen treat, but wanted something all natural and with no sugar. I came across this recipe from Clean Eating magazine and not only is it easy and quick, it's delicious!

Mango Sorbet

3 cups of frozen fruit (I chose all Mango, but you can experiment and do anything!)

1/2 cup of coconut water or until creamy

juice of 1 lime

Put frozen fruit (I get the bags of it in the freezer section) into a food processor and pulse until it's in tiny granules

Mix the lime and coconut water together and then pour into the feed tube while the fruit is processing until it gets creamy. You may have to scrape down the bowl a few times.

Serve immediately, or put in an airtight container and freeze.

How easy is that?

When it comes time to shop for jewelry, I usually head on over to Forever 21. They always seem to have whatever is on trend, and it's cheap! I'm sure that I'm late to this party, but I just found out about Skinnygirl Margarita this week thanks to my friend Laura! I have been off sugar for awhile so I am happy to know my summer won't be margaritaless....just guiltless! The pre-mixed cocktail has only 100 calories per serving (and a serving is an actual drink), is made with all natural ingredients, and sweetened with agave nectar instead of high fructose corn syrup! Last night, Matty and I had THE best Thai food we have ever had (sorry Jasmine), thanks to my friend Amanda. I was telling her recently how I love Thai food, and she told me we had to try The Smiling Elephant. It's a quaint little dive on 8th avenue, that just driving by you may miss. Once inside you feel transported to Thailand with the carved wood, marble tables, and small wooden stools in place of chairs. The menu is succinct, the waitstaff was incredibly helpful, and the music wasn't cheesy! To further it's satiable credibility, the owners of Burger Up were sitting next to us! Must have been their night off! If you want great food, and a great experience, you must try The Smiling Elephant soon! Just beware...there will be a wait!

shoe review: payless nautical stripe platforms

So I got the shoes last night and I have to say, I am really impressed with the quality! There is even a suede padding where your little toesies lay. The wedge heel is super shiny and perfect, as are the stripes and the canvas material of the upper portion of the shoe! The one downfall would be that they are TALL! You really need to know how to work a platform to feel steady in these shoes. I would try a practice run around the house before heading out to more treacherous land... like stairs.
As far as the price point goes, when I tried them on, Mr. Matty said "woah those shoes are great...they are from Payless?" I said, "Yeah but they are 50 dollars" and he replied, "they look more expensive than 50 dollars". With that man's stamp of approval I promptly found a new place for them to live in my closet. Hope this helps for those of you on the fence.
